Night Circus Atlantis
Where: FanClub, 1050 Granville, Vancouver
Regular readers of Erotic Vancouver will know that it takes something very special to entice us to list an event happening on the Granville Strip. A couple of Sin City parties were enough to get us to overlook our prejudices where Vancouver’s police state was concerned. Last Friday’s Tarantino Burlesque at FanClub not only warranted a listing, it was enough to entice EV’s editor onto Granville after dark.
And it looks like the folks at FanClub have done it again!
Music. Cirque. Burlesque. Theatre. Dance. Experience. That’s the tagline for this event, and, well, rather than try to paraphrase it, let’s just quote from the event’s write up “Night Circus is a pilot event that can only be described as an experience — an experience that features burlesque, circus, live music and theatre — and instead of it happening on the stage, it happens all around you throughout the room. To make things even more interesting, each guest is given a passport upon entry. This passport outlines an alias, character traits and a special mission for guests to play along if they choose. Think Tony & Tina’s wedding meets Cirque du Soleil with more than its share of sexy.”
It’s a show with high hopes. If it lives up to even half of them it’s a night that might just be able to change Erotic Vancouver’s view of Granville Street permanently.
Saturday, January 18
Geekenders: A Nightmare After Christmas
Where: The Cellar, 1006 Granville Street, Vancouver
Fresh off the amazing success of their Star Wars: A Nude Hope (4 sold out shows at The Rio, rave reviews from around the world, and winner of Erotic Vancovuer’s Oh Fun City! Award for 2013) Geekenders returns to their nightclub roots at The Cellar for a Tim Burton inspired burlesque show and dance party, the story of Skellington Jack and his falling apart mat Sally!
Featuring eerie magic, music, belly-dancing, and burlesque performances by Aleister Crane, Jessica Mayhew, Riannaconda, Velvet Von Doff, and Busty Summers. And it’s all hosted by the amazing talents of Graeme Thompson and Trixie Hobbitses!
Where: Chapel Arts, 304 Dunlevy Street, Vancouver
NOIR Fetish Ball revitalized Vancouver’s fetish scene when it began in 2010, and many of the innovations they brought to nightclub kink are now staples of the kink scene. Yet a year-and-a-half ago the night was certainly in trouble, having lost their original home at The Cobalt.
For a time the night frankly floundered, and 2012 closed with NOIR’s future anything but certain. But then came 2013, and with it the move to Chapel Arts, and NOIR has never looked back! For Erotic Vancouver’s money there’s no better venue for sexy shenanigans and kinky cavorting than Chapel Arts!
So join NOIR front men Reive and Logik as they mark both a year at the Chapel, and just over a year since Logik’s coma and near brush with death! It’s certainly cause for celebration.
Dance the night away on either the downstairs Chapel Dancefloor or upstairs in The Rectory. Take to NOIR’s signature Front & Centre dungeon, a space brought to you by two individuals with a combined 30+ years of kink experience, not to mention that of their amazing and talented staff! This is the night you’ll find the promoters not just working the crowd, but working over a few willing victims on some of the amazing BDSM furniture supplied by Black & Blue Dungeon Equipment.
If you’re going to attend remember the evening has a STRICT Fetish Dress Code! But trust us, this is a night worth dressing up for!
Electro Swing Circus
Where: Imperial, 319 Main Street, Vancouver
Circus is apparently a thing now! Which pleases EV’s editor no end, as he’s got a bit of a circus fetish truth to tell.
This circus promises to be very sexy. Featuring Blackbery Wood, a alt-country Gypsy Circus band (we don’t know either?!) and a ton of great DJ’s including regular NOIR Fetish Ball resident Applecat, some amazing circus performanes, including an aerial hoop burlesque by Cara Milk, and more, this is a night that has to be seen and heard to be believed!
Sunday, January 19
Kitty Nights Sexy 6th Anniversary Bash
Where: The Biltmore Cabaret, 2755 Princess Street, Vancouver
When: Doors 8:00pm Show 9:00pm
In some ways it’s hard to believe that Kitty Nights is six years old and not just going strong, but leading the way for our city’s burlesque scene. In other ways it’s hard to imagine there ever was a time without Kitty Nights, it’s become a staple of Erotic Vancouver’s events column (being our most listed event these past two years) and a Sunday night staple for those with great sexy taste.
This Sunday will be a star-studded explosion, as hosts Burgundy Brixx and The Purrrfessor welcome to the Kitty Nights stage Rita Star & Lola Frost, Nicky Ninedoors, Villainy Loveless, Voracious V, Nite Mare, and Precious Metal. In addition they’re welcoming for the first time Faye Havoc! And all of that is followed by some sexy post show dance party revelry with DJ Cherry On Top.
Get there early if you want to get in—this show will unquestionably sell out!
F is for February and Fetish, and in 2014 Oh Fun City! is dubbing the month ahead Fetish February.
The first weekend is the Taboo Sex Show, running January 30th to February 2nd. Dubbed by many as the cities biggest dildo store, the show actually offers so much more! With 2 seminar theatres, a show stage that will be kept busy all weekend with exciting entertainment, the dungeon which features all of Vancouver’s biggest players, and in that dungeon you’ll find The Erotic Vancouver Dungeon stage!
Come look for Erotic Vancouver, which will be representing at the joint NOIR/MVK table there.
The following weekend Metro Vancouver Kink presents Westcoast Bound. Here at EV we know kink. EV editor Reive Doig has over 20 years of experience in the lifestyle, is a partner in NOIR Fetish Ball, and was co-founder of BIO, the spiritual successor to MVK, and the originators of the Vancouver Dungeon parties, so believe you me when we say that MVK is the gold standard for kink in Western Canada, not just today but ever! And while Vancouver has played host to many great kink conferences in the past, it’s MVK that’s truly put Oh Fun City! on the map internationally where BDSM is concerned.
If you go out to just one kinky event all year you’d do well to make it Westcoast Bound!
Then the weekend following there’s another weekend of fetish taking place, with Sin City’s Valentine’s Fetish Ball at Imperial, one of the two best homes fetish has found in this city.
But wait, that’s not all the fetish ball you get that weekend! The very next night NOIR Fetish Ball presents Galations: 5:19, a religious theme night in conjunction with an art show at Vancouver’s other great fetish venue, Chapel Arts.
“Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivaries, dissensions, envy, drunkeness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the Kingdom of God.” Check out the artistic interpretations and inspirations of that bible verse upstairs in Chapel’s art gallery The Rectory which doubles as NOIR’s second dance floor.
And that’s not all happening the day after Valentine’s, it’s also time for the monthly Rascal’s dungeon party! Get your kink on at the WISE Hall without all that pesky dancing, and with a damned site more equipment than you’ll find anywhere else other than MVK.
The next weekend actually looks quiet so far, though no doubt something kinky will pop up to fill the gap!
And then the final weekend in Feburary Sin City Fetish Night returns to the newly re-opened Waldorf Hotel for a full venue takeover! That’s not just the two downstairs bars and the upstairs Tiki Lounge, it’s also every single room in the hotel! It simply doesn’t get kinkier than that!
