Avenue QAVENUE Q
THE BROADWAY MUSICAL FOR ADULTS

WHERE:  The Arts Club, Granville Island Stage,
1585 Johnston Street (next to the Public Market)

WHEN:  Fri., Sept 13  @  8pm  (approx. 2h15  –  inc. 1 intermission)
Sat., Sept 14  @  2pm  and  8pm

DESCRIPTION:  Irreverently witty and outright uproarious, Avenue Q is the musical story of Princeton, a bright-eyed college graduate who arrives in New York City looking for love, a job, and his purpose in life. The only neighbourhood he can afford is the multicultural Avenue Q, where Sesame Street-esque puppets rub shoulders with humans. Part felt, part flesh, Avenue Q is packed with songs that are surprisingly poignant and only occasionally PC.  WARNING: FULL PUPPET NUDITY AND OTHER VULGARITIES WILL INDUCE LAUGHTER.  This is a puppet show. However, this is not your kids’ puppet show as it sneaks a peek at raucous sexual congress, failed childhood stardom, excessive drinking, moving in and out of a slummy neighbourhood, investing, mix-tapes, cute creatures doing bad things, singing boxes, getting laid off, finding your purpose, getting fired, getting re-hired, ruvving someone but wanting to kirr them, exotic dancing, erotic dancing, exotic erotic dancing, homosexuality, racism, pornography, masturbation, interracial marriage, interspecies relationships (monsters and humans), roommates, coming out of the closet, coming out of your apartment, getting ahead in life, going to college, pan-handling, wishing you were back in college, coming out of your shell, and recycling.  Avenue Q has not been authorized or approved by the Jim Henson Company or Sesame Workshop, which have no responsibility for its content…because this ain’t no kids’ show.

MVK NEWBIE MUNCHmunches
KINK / BDSM GROUP

WHERE:  The Tipper,  2066 Kingsway, Vancouver

WHEN:  Mon., Sept 16  –  6:30pm to 8:30pm

COST:  Only what you order

DESCRIPTION:  Are you new to the scene, and want to meet people?  Interested in going to a play party, but aren’t sure what to expect (or wear, or do…)?  Want to gush about an experience that was new to you, to understanding ears?  Curious about what real kinky lifestyles and relationships are like, beyond what you’ve read in recent blockbuster novels?  Then the Newbie Munch is just the right place for you!  A munch is a casual dinner gathering at a public restaurant that allows people to get to know each other in a low-pressure environment. Folks don’t dress up in party clothes, and no play happens. It’s just dinner with kinky-minded people! Munches are a great way to meet people so that you know someone when you go to parties!  Although this event is targeted at people who are new to the scene, more experienced players are welcome as well (as someone will need to answer all those questions!!). This would be a great place to bring friends who’ve expressed interest but aren’t sure about jumping into attending a party!  This month the Munch will again be held at The Tipper Restaurant and Review Room, 2066 Kingsway, Vancouver (at Victoria). Menu and info is available at : http://tippermenu.blogspot.com/ . They do have good gluten-free options, including GF buns for burgers! The RSVP is under the name “Andi” — we’ll be in the back room!  This restaurant is only a ten minute bus ride from Commercial or Nanaimo Skytrain stations, and about a 15 minute walk from Nanaimo station. There’s street parking on side streets.  If you have any questions about this event, please feel free to send me a message, or post on the discussion for the event!

COST:  $15

After just a few hours experts can predict with a surprising degree of accuracy the couples who are happy and the ones headed for separation. You can apply this knowledge to increase the happiness in your own relationship. This seminar will outline the findings of this valuable area of research and give you ideas to improve your connection with your partner, such as:  • Regularly expressing appreciation • Deliberately cultivating novelty in your relationship • Responding to your partner’s “bids” for attention • Forgiveness • Non-sexual physical contact.
