Hot Sexy Events July 30 – August 5: Pride Edition
When it comes to Hot Sexy Events in Vancouver you’d be hard pressed to find a week more chock full of them than Pride, and this year is certainly no exception!
Tuesday, July 31st features Art Party! It’s the Opening Night Gala for Queer Arts Festival 2012. Come celebrate in a gay, carnival atmosphere, featuring live performances and “Random Acts of Queerness.”
Featuring performances by: Frédérik Robert (tenor), Rachel Kiyo Iwaasa (piano), LOUD, Elanine Stef (guitar), Al Cannon (trumpet), Dianna David (movement storyteller), Eileen Kage (taiko), Diadem & DJ Tapes. All MC’ed by the incomparable Barb Snelgrove.
You’ll find details on Facebook and at the Queer Arts Festival website.
With performances now until August 4th is the play Blowing Whistles by Matthew Todd. It’s described as “a searing, topical drama about love, sex and identity that transcends sexuality to resonate with anyone who has ever tried to maintain a long-term relationship.” Without giving away any spoilers, it’s the story of two men who decide to celebrate their tenth anniversary by bringing home a (much) younger man for a threesome. According to one attendee, Erotic Vancouver’s style and content editor, the full frontal nudity alone is worth the price of admission! Details on the Landmark Productions website.
Sticking with theatre, Wednesday August 1st the Queer Arts Festival presents Clean Sheets, the annual reading series of original queer-themed plays by both emerging and established Canadian playwrights, put on by Queer theatre troupe the Screaming Weenie’s. Playwrights have been teamed with a local team of actors and a dramaturge ensues for a couple of days behind closed doors before they take to the stage to share these original new works. The Singularity of Desire by Judy M. Miles takes place at 6:30pm, followed by Memorial by Steven Gallagher at 8:00pm. You’ll find details on the Queer Arts Festival website.
Thursday, August 2nd is Pride sTeam, a bathhouse night for all genders. The night runs from 8pm to 1am, locker rates are $20, regular rooms are $30 and deluxe rooms are $35. Erotic Vancouver was lucky enough to attend the last sTeam event and is happy to pronounce it a rollicking, frollicking success. You’ll find details on the sTeam website. If you’d like to be kept informed about their future events join the sTeam group on Facebook. (Please note this is a closed group, and you will need to be approved.)
Friday, August 3rd features a number of events, and we’ll start with Bride of Pride Queered, the BDSM play party for kinky queers. That means it’s a party for all queer identified people 18+ of ALL genders, bodies and presentations. The evening runs from 8pm to 1am, although doors close at midnight. Admission is $20 in advance or $30 at the door, so be sure to get your tickets early!
The fun all takes place at The Maritime Labour Centre, a venue that doesn’t stop hopping until after Pride weekend is over. You’ll find all the details on Bride of Pride Queered on the Canadian Mayhem website and on Facebook.
Also taking place on Friday night is the Grand Opening Party for “16 Deadly Sins’ Exotic Erotic Art Show presented by Restricted Entertainment, producers of Sin City.
The show will run for two weeks at The Fall Tattooing & Artists Gallery, but the prime time to check it out is during this opening gala, when the show will first be unveiled, along with many of the artists, photographers, and models being in attendance!
From 8-10pm is the art show opening and meet and greet, followed by dancing until 3am featuring Sin City DJs Pandemonium, R-Lex, Evilyn 13 and guests. Details can be found on Facebook.
Saturday, August 4th Metro Vancouver Kink presents their monthly Vancouver Dungeon Party, and in celebration of Pride they present a Pridespeak Workshop hosted by QMUNITY from 4:30-7:30pm. The workshop is geared at bridging community and facilitating inclusion, and MVK says “if you only attend one class all year, this is the one not to miss.” You’ll find details on the workshop on Fetlife. (Free Fetlife membership required.) Admission to the workshop is by donation.
All that education is followed by the Vancouver Dungeon BDSM Play Party from 8pm-1am. Tickets are $20. All the fun takes place at The Maritime Labour Centre. We told you this place would be hopping! Details on the Metro Vancouver Kink website.
Sunday, August 5th is the culmination of Pride Week, and the pinnacle itself is the Pride Parade. Starting at noon, and running down Robson from the corner of Bute Street, then down Denman, and onto Beach Avenue before ending at the corner of Jervis Street, you’ll want to get down to the Parade route early if you’re hoping to score a good spot – ideally in the shade if Sunday is anywhere near as hot as the past few years’ Prides have been.
In the interest of keeping things Hot and Sexy rather than sun stroked, the Pride Society urges you to be prepared to guard yourself against the sun with sunscreen, a hat and plenty of water.
So come out to check out the leather men, dykes on bikes, the pretty twinks, and look for Erotic Vancouver favorites MVK and Vancouver Poly, which both have entries in the Parade. You can also expect to see Erotic Vancouver’s editor playing ringmaster on the MVK float!
You’ll find details on the Vancouver Pride Society’s parade page, and check out the rest of their website for details on other happenings over Pride.
The fun doesn’t stop with the Parade though. Following that is the Pride Festival at Sunset Beach, and a Hot Sexy highlight of that will the Xfour Chocolate Vodka Wrestling Ring starting at 4pm. Come out and spectate, or register as an individual or a team to get in on the fun. Check out their Facebook event listing for details and the wrestling ring rules if you feel the need, but frankly they had us at “Chocolate Vodka Wrestling.”
Each year some of the hottest Pride Parties of the year don’t take place within Vancouver’s city limits, instead you have to take to the water for Crusiey T’s Pride Cruises. Sunday, August 5th you can choose from the Go Go Cruise and the Pride Party Cruise – or rather you could if you could even find a ticket for the latter! But should you be lucky enough to snag a ticket for either of these parties you’ll be in fine company and witness to some fabulous entertainment. Cruisey T refuses to call it quits on Sunday, though, and they follow up on Monday with the Recovery Cruise. All feature a rooftop deck dance, inside dance floors, an on-board BBQ, Oxygen Bar, Drag Shows and much more.
Erotic Vancouver wraps up our listings for Pride week with the party you can expect to find us at: Unicorn Born. Billed as Genderfest’s Eastvan Queer Pride Party!!! you know it’s got to be absolutely fabulous just based on the three exclamation points alone!
It’s the final event of Pride taking place at the Martime Labour Centre, and the party runs from 9pm until 2am. Partiers are encouraged to dress up as all manner of things – be creative, be stunning, be beautiful! But most importantly be free and true to yourself!
Tickets are only $15 in advance and $20 at the door, making it the cheapest major dance party of the night! Plus with all drinks costing only $4, by making this your go-to party you’ll be able to spend all the cash you’re saving on one amazing outfit! Details can be found on Facebook or at the Genderfest website.
That wraps up another week of Hot Sexy Events here on Erotic Vancouver. Know of a Pride party or other event that didn’t get listed but which you think should have been? Leave a comment letting us know.
In conclusion: Be Proud, Be Sexy!
