Well what a week it was that just passed! The Westcoast Bound Conference put on by Metro Vancouver Kink will unquestionably go down as one of the great events of this, and for that matter any, year. In most cities you’d expect things to cool down following such an amazing weekend, but here in Vancouver, and with Valentine’s Day approaching, it’s as if all the other organizers of events have decided that means it’s time to heat things up!
If you’re a first time reader of Hot Sexy Events you’ll see that the column most commonly links to one or more of three sources for more information on an event: the event’s own website, a Facebook event listing, or a Fetlife event listing. We’re sure we don’t need to explain those first two to you, but you may not be familiar with the third. Fetlife is a social network for kinksters, those into BDSM and/or fetish. It’s free to join, and a membership is required to view info on the site. While Hot Sexy Events most commonly links to Facebook or a website, since Fetlife membership is less common, because those throwing events for the kinky set are going to go where the kinky set are sometimes the only–and often the most complete–info on those events can be found there, so consider signing up if you find yourself interested in a listing that only links there.
Now without further ado, onto the week’s events!
Monday, February 4: Laura Antoniou Reading
Where: Little Sisters, 1238 Davie Street, Vancouver
Laura Antoniou is the famous author of the Marketplace series of BDSM fantasy novels. Those books were once banned in Canada, and yet through those years Little Sisters Bookstore continued to carry them. Well, now Laura is paying Little Sisters back in this special appearance following on the heels of her presenting at this past weekend’s Westcoast Bound.
Celebrate all the years of The Marketplace series of BDSM novels with a reading in support of a brand NEW collection of short stories, No Safewords: A Marketplace Fan Anthology – appearing FIRST at Little Sisters!
The evening offers an opportunity to get signed editions of other Marketplace novels and hear all about her next book, “The Killer Wore Leather”, and news of the 6th book in the Marketplace series, “The Inheritor.”
Hear excerpts from these upcoming projects and get your books autographed in this rare Canadian appearance by Laura Antoniou.
WinterPRIDE, formerly known as Gay Ski Week, is perhaps the most fun you can have in Whistler Village with your clothes both on and off! The week is full of fabulous events, a full list of which can be found on the Gay Whistler website. Even if you don’t ski there is sure to be more than a few things (and possibly folks) you’ll want to do over the course of WinterPRIDE.

Interview Magazine chose her as one of their “14 Artists to Watch.” She’s done guest spots on the albums of many artists, including Billy Corgan and Metalocalypse, and is perhaps best known as Courtney Love’s “anarchy violinist.” Well now she’s back with the spotlight firmly focused on herself!
Her latest album, “OPHELIAC” and her stage show are both written in a style she calls “victoriandustrial.” As she herself describes the music and the experience, “I learnt to walk in the backstages of theatres and opera houses, amongst the beautiful chaos of costume changes, circus performers, sweaty ballerinas, dripping make-up, and far too much glitter. Then, I went mad and was locked up. What did you think that would sound like?”
A sexy circus of gothic burlesque backed by her all-girl band, The Bloody Crumpets, this truly promises to be a unique and sexy show. More details can be found on this Facebook event listing.
Can love be the answer? A panacea? Can love solve all the problems emerging from human foibles, frailties, and stupidities? Is love submission to the object of love, or is it a kind of liberation from the other cares of life? “All you need is love,” goes the song, but can you eat it, wear it, and dwell in it? Do we need to share more muscular things such as compassion and aid?

Well the number of nerdlesque shows in Vancouver, that sweet and sexy mixture of burlesque and nerd humour, continues to multiply, and this new show from former Geeks After Dark partner Tyler James Nicol is the latest offering to that sweet, sweet slice of “Oh Fun City’s” cultural pie!
This comedy show offers something a little different than most, however: not only do the hosts try to entertain the audience, they attempt to win them over! Join up with the insane yet sensible facts of NIKOLA TESLA (JJ Webb), the delightful fiction of H.G. WELLS (Tyler James Nicol), and the menacing infamy of THOMAS EDISON (Stephen W.B. Blakely Mason) not just as hosts but as your mighty leaders!
You’ll have the opportunity to don a costume representing each of these mad scientists armies, and if you visit their Facebook event listing you’ll find full details on what that costume might look like, and other science facts (and fictions) that we dare not print!
What is lust? The worst sin imaginable or a playful indulgence? There’s no doubt about its primal appeal, but there are doubts about its consequences. Wouldn’t life be dull without a little lust?

With bands Tyranahorse, The Population Drops, Combine the Victorious, and an acoustic set by members of No Sinner.
