Hot Sexy Events: April 8-14

April 8, 2013 at 1:24 pm  •  Posted in Hot Sexy Events by  •  0 Comments

Welcome to another edition of Erotic Vancouver’s Hot Sexy Events. Each week we try to bring you some of the hottest, sexiest and best events happening here in Vancouver proper and beyond. We’ve been known to look as far a field as Victoria, which has been hosting an increasing number of Hot Sexy Events of late. Swingers parties, erotic art openings, fetish nights, dungeon parties and more – we’re trying to list them all.

For the listings we include we provide links for more information: most often those links are either to a website or  a Facebook event listing. Occasionally, most often with kinky events, a Facebook event listing is not available but a Fetlife one is, and so that is included. If you wish to access a Fetlife event listing you will need a membership to this free social network, Facebook for fetishists, as it were.

Wherever we link to, and wherever your sexy explorations take you, Erotic Vancouver wishes you luck!

Monday, April 8: Queer Liberation and Collective Liberation AORTA Workshop
Where: Gallery Cachet
, 88 East Cordova Street, Vancouver

AORTA stands for Anti-oppression Resource and Training Alliance. How do dismantling the gender binary and anti-racism relate to uprooting classism and disability justice? This workshop explores the intersections of identity and liberation. Using a strong anti-oppression lens, this popular education style workshop will give participants a safe place to discuss power and privilege, reflect on the state of their communities, and leave with concrete action steps to challenge and change the conversations and conditions in their communities and beyond.

Why is this listed here in Hot Sexy Events, you ask? Because racism, sexism, and most of the other -isms ain’t sexy, but standing up and fixing them certainly is.

You’ll find more information on the night at its Facebook event listing, and on the AORTA project on their website.

Wednesday, April 10: Butch-Not like the other girls Art Opening
Where: The Cultch
, 1895 Venables Street, Vancouver

Renowned local photographer, and director of the Queer Arts Festival, SD Holman presents the photographic exhibition BUTCH: Not like the other girls, with this exhibition opening on Wednesday evening at East Vancouver’s Cultch.

According to the photographer, the nearly 100 pieces in the exhibition are photos of the space between, occupied by the big old bull dykes we know. I say Butch not as dissing Femme and Trans folks, but as a general site of struggle against the limited way that women, gender, and sexuality are still defined. The pictures honour the lively and unpredictable beauty, power and diversity of women who transgress the two sided gender rule-boys r masculine/ girls r feminine – celebrating and cutting across categories (literally Queer) and have good debates of manly women, full strength without regret.

For more information on the see its Facebook event listing.

The Georgia Straight has a piece on SD Holman’s Butch here.

Wednesday, April 10: Babes of Burlesque April Fools Edition
Where: Falconetti’s
, 1812 Commercial Drive, Vancouver

Babes of Burlesque at Falconetti’s has rapidly established itself as another of Vancouver’s great nights for dance both seductive and silly – and being that this Wednesday celebrates April Fools you can expect a bit of both.

The evenings line up of babes are Diamond Minx, Delialah Diabolic, and Pocket Venus. The evening also features the “jumpin jack jazz” beats of house band Return of the Stern, and the whole evening is hosted by the aptly named Mz B Haven.

For more information see their Facebook event listing.

Wednesday, April 10: The Gentlemen Hecklers- Hard Ticket to Hawaii
Where: The Rio Theatre
, 1660 East Broadway, Vancouver

Laughter is the best aphrodisiac… or so every aspiring comic hopes. Here at Erotic Vancouver we don’t know about that as a general rule, but we can tell you that when The Rio Theatre and The Gentlemen Hecklers team up its going to qualify as one hot night of entertainment.

And with the evenings film selection being amongst the “Best of the Bad,” as the organizers put it, you can rely on there being some sexy happenings on screen as well – all the better to distract you from the bad acting, bad writing and bad plot of Hard Ticket to Hawaii

Local comedians Patrick Maliha, Eric Fell and Shaun Stewart audibly eviscerate the film believed to include cinema’s first “killer frisbee” scene, and more absolute madness.

For more information see their Facebook event listing or The Rio Theatre’s website.

Where: Grandview Legion
, 2205 Commercial Drive, Vancouver
 7:00pm-2:00am both nights

When you’re hot you’re hot, as the saying goes, and the hot new thing gaining momentum here in Vancouver’s party scene is Electro Swing. “Old-school swing and jazz songs are revamped and revisited, wrapped up in sick modern beats and sultry bass lines. Past meets future in an exciting and unique way that’s sure to get your feet moving,” as the promoters of this event describe it.

Having had the opportunity to attend a few of these events we’d be hard pressed to argue!

Dress up in your favorite Retro/Swing/Circus/SteamPunk/Victorian era influenced attire, and head down to the Legion on Commercial Drive this weekend for some out of the ordinary fun, featuring more crazy entertainment than we have room to describe here.

Sin City has been on the move recently, and into some first class venues at that the last Saturday of each month, but the 2nd Saturday of the month they call The Red Room home.

This upcoming weekend they host their annual Carnival of Kink party, with sexy carnival, circus, jester and the like outfits encouraged, but certainly not required. What is required is that all outfits be kinky in some way. As the organizers put it “Sass or sex it up, we want to see the fetishy freak in you – take the opportunity to show yourself off!”

Looking Ahead

Normally the Looking Ahead portion of this column is where we let you know about the exciting plans one or more of the events around town might be cooking up, but this week we’d like to take a moment here in Looking Ahead to take a Look Back – back at the past year, that is! Because next week will mark the start of the second year of Hot Sexy Events! Our very first column covered the week of April 16-22, 2012.

Thank you for your support during that time. Our column has grown to the point where it now receives approximately 1000 unique visitors a week; it’s a number that we hope will grow over time, just as we’re happy to be able to report Vancouver’s alt-sexuality scenes are themselves growing! Do us a favour, help spread the word, about Hot Sexy Events, about those various events themselves, and of course about Erotic Vancouver as well.

And, of course, stay sexy!

That’ sit for another week of Hot Sexy Events. Join us back here next week as we officially celebrate our one year anniversary of the column.

As always, if you know of a Hot Sexy Event that we’ve missed and which you think should be on this list let us, and all of our readers, know in a comment below.
