Welcome to a very special edition of Erotic Vancouver’s Hot Sexy Events. Special how, you ask? Well it was a year ago that the first Hot Sexy Events column debuted, the week of April 16-22, 2012. One year, and over 500 individual event listings later, we’re pleased to have become Vancouver’s sex-positive event info source!
Erotic Vancouver isn’t just keeping people informed via Hot Sexy Events these days, though. We’re pleased to say that with time and effort our Event Calendar is now being used regularly, both by those organizing events and those looking for information on them!
If you’re an event organizer please contact Erotic Vancouver’s editor Reive via ReiveDoig (at) Gmail (dot) com with your event information if you’d like to be listed in a future edition of Hot Sexy Events. If you regularly organize events likely to be of interest to Erotic Vancouver readers you can also request a Calendar Log-In so that you can share the word. We can’t guarantee every event will make every edition of Hot Sexy Events, there are simply too many great events in any given week to make that happen, but we do hope to help people list as many as possible on our calendar.
Now without further ado onto the week’s events!
In BDSM parlance a munch is a casual dinner gathering at a public restaurant that allows people to get to know each other in a low-pressure environment. Folks don’t dress up in party clothes, and no play happens. It’s just dinner with kinky-minded people! Munches are a great way to meet people so that you know someone when you go to parties.
This munch is specifically aimed at those new to the kink scene, although those more experienced to are welcome to attend, and it is run by local non-profit BDSM group Metro Vancouver Kink (MVK) and as regular readers of this column known, Erotic Vancouver considers MVK the gold standard of kink community in our city!
You’ll find more details on the evening here on Fetlife. Please note that a free Fetlife membership is necessary to view listings on the site.
Cards Against Humanity is the aptly named take on the televisions old “Match Game” format, if the game show had been put together by psychopathic comics. It’s rapidly become the most popular game amongst horrible, horrible people!
Local improv group, The Fictionals, asked themselves “What could be better than letting your friends know just what a sick, horrible person you are?” The answer, to their minds, was to make people play in front of an audience, and then each round to act out the winning selection. We don’t know that we’d describe those improv skits as “sexy,” per se, but we’re willing to guarantee more than one or two will certainly qualify as “sexual.”
Let Erotic Vancouver be clear: if you go to this show you are most likely a horrible, horrible person. However, if you don’t go you’re missing out on one of Vancouver’s most hilarious nights of entertainment!
More details on the evening can be found on their Facebook event listing. If you’d like to know more about the game Cards Against Humanity itself, or if you’re such a terrible, terrible person that you’d like to order a copy, you can visit the CAH website.
Polyamory has been getting a lot of play in the media in the past few years. If somehow you’ve missed all of those stories Polyamory is, in a nutshell, the practice, desire, or acceptance of having more than one intimate relationship at a time with the knowledge and consent of everyone involved.
Erotic Vancouver has discovered that Polyamory is like spaghetti sauce, in that everyone practicing it thinks their recipe is the best, and that nobody else does it quite right! The Poly 101 Group seeks to rectify those mistakes (and ignorant opinions like our own) with their regualr Poly 101 Discussions, where they tackle a subject of interest to, and hopefully helpful for, those actively practicing or curious to try poly.
This Thursday’s discussion is on Poly Fails. Come learn from others mistakes or share your own and seek some advice. You aren’t likely to find a more accepting and non judgemental place for it.
For more information visit the Poly 101event listing on Facebook.
Local legend Blue Morris combines his two loves, Rock and Roll and Burlesque, each month and brings you the simply but aptly titled Blue Morris’ Rock and Roll Burlesque.
The night is a live-music burlesque show featuring some of the most memorable songs from music history — from James Brown to Jack White. Burlesque becomes something quite different, somehow more alive, in front of a live band – particularly one lead by Blue Morris.
The evenings dancers are Little Miss Risk, Lacey Lamour, Villiany Loveless, Voodoo Pixie, Connie Cahoots, and Justine Sane, and the evening is hosted Connie Cahoots.
Metro Vancouver Kink has, for the past several years, been the city’s first name in dungeon parties and kink education; now you can add sex-positive steam nights to the things they do in first class style!
At Slick! MVK brings out some of their most popular toys, safer sex supplies and more. Attendees need only bring a spirit of adventure and sense of fun – although there’s a suggestion list for those who’d like to bring out a little bit more.
For more details see their Fetlife event listing. Please note that a free Fetlife membership is necessary to view listings on the site.
Ponyboy, the mind behind Man Up, brings another night of entertainment to East Van. Billed as queer space that’s also for “Allies, friendlies, kooks, sharks, snookers, lookers, boozers, shmoozers, sobers, kinks, crusties, vajayjays, peens, inbetweens, and you.”
With the tagline “Cheap drinks, cheap thrills, free pool, cute girls” the night promises.
Plus the night features Ponyboys’s debut as a DJ, with a set from 9-10pm, before Mandy Lyn (Star 80, BLOW UP!) takes to the decks.
Details can be found here on Facebook.
Local BDSM dungeon party Rascal’s kicks off an hour early this Saturday night in order to offer up their annual Swap Meet. Looking for something new to wear out to your favorite fetish night or dungeon party? Hoping to expand your collection of toys? Or maybe you no longer fit into that one pair of leather pants, or ever use that flogger with those tails—in any of those cases Rascal’s Swap Meet is the perfect place to buy something new to you, or to pass on something old to someone else who will appreciate it.
And of course afterwards there’s the chance to play on some of Vancouver’s finest BDSM equipment!
The lower mainland’s best known swingers club brings you a night to explore your kinky side in full out sexual fashion.
Have you ever fantasized about being in complete control of your partner’s pleasure? How about the sweet surrender of submitting to your partner’s will during a sexy adventure? Or do you imagine being tied up and blindfolded while experiencing your lovers touch? Then don’t miss Eden’s erotic version of the global best seller “50 Shades of Grey.”
Erotic Vancouver might not have a high opinion of that book, but we certainly have a glowing opinion of Club Eden, and we’ve got no doubts that 50 Shades of Red is going to be much sexier and more fun than drab old Grey could ever be!
Full details on the party, and about how to join Club Eden, can be found on their website.
NOIR Fetish Ball is the night that’s helped to raise the bar on a fetish scene that for many years had become the same-old-same-old, and while the scene as a whole is thriving better than it ever has before, NOIR certainly isn’t resting on it’s laurels.
The night’s new for 2013 venue, Chapel Arts, is anything but new itself. Originally built as a church, it became a funeral chapel for nearly 100 years, and now it’s one of the cities most unique event venues. The space affords NOIR a more intimate feel than most fetish events anywhere, with attendees regularly describing it as feeling like an intimate kinky house party! Rest assured, however, there’s nothing amateur hour about the nights kink – after all, this is the night brought to you by Reive, and Logik, with more than 30 years of kink and alternative event promotions experience between them!
Featuring Vancouver’s original front & centre dungeon space, 2 rooms of dancing, with Logik & dj://spaz in The Chapel, and Tango & Applecat spinning in The Rectory, whether you’re looking to fulfil your decadent desires on the dance floor, in the dungeon, or both, this night promises to leave you thoroughly satisfied!
Vancouver Fan Expo, a weekend devoted to all things sci-fi, comic book and cos-play (that’s costume play, for the un-informed about uniforms) happens this Saturday and Sunday. That’s very much an all ages event, and as such didn’t make the Hot Sexy Events column. The Galaxion Official After Party is very much an adult affair, however, and we’ve no doubt that some of the sexy costumes on display there would be just at home at local fetish nights NOIR or Sin City as they will be there!
Speaking of Sin City, that night’s DJ Pandemonium, will be joining Vortex and Manos, to bring you an evening full of Sythpop, retro electro, funk, and new wave.
Plus the night wouldn’t be Galzaxion if the venue weren’t turned into the coolest, 80’s retro arcade you’ve ever seen, featuring spooky console games on projection screens and frighteningly vintage full-size arcade cabinets. There’s also a costume contest, 50 draw and more. All that and 50% of the proceeds go the BC Children’s Hospital Foundation, so you can do something for the kids while acting like one yourself!
Details can be found here on Facebook.
Those looking for information on Fan Expo itself can visit their website.
In most cities sexy Sunday events are few and far between, but in Vancouver we’re lucky enough to have at least one happening each and every Sunday night, courtesy of Kitty Nights!
Produced by Vancouver’s own queen of burlesque, Burgundy Brixx, and The Purrrfessor, the night always promises, laughs, fun, and some of the best burlesque entertainment around.
This weeks line up features Little Miss Risk, Ruthe Ordare, Sherry Hymen, and Nite Mare, with go-go by Jungle Cat. Plus, of course, Burgundy Brixx herself! And it’s all followed by a psychadelic dance party lead by DJ Cherry OnTop.
For most club nights the loss of their regular venue would spell decline or worse, but when Club 23 was forced to close their doors local legendary fetish night Sin City took lemons and made not just lemonade, but whatever that great drink you get that’s mixed with real lemons, mint and more booze than you should reasonably drink in one sitting. Yup, it’s that good!
Hot on the heels of their first event at Granville’s Fan Club, they’ve announed that first class venue will become a regular stop on their rotating venues list. They weren’t able to get into Fan Club for April, however, but never fear – istead they’re bringing fetish to The Waldorf, the first time a fetish night has taken place their since 2005! Sin City is aming to go bigger than even Cirque de Sade did back then, taking over not just the two lower level bars, but also the infamous Tiki Bar (aka The Starlight Room) upstairs! It promises to be a night to remember.
But The Waldorf isn’t the only amazing venue Sin City recently announced. For their anniversary party on Saturday, July 27 Restricted Entertainment has booked The Commodore for what they plan to be Vancouver’s biggest fetish party ever! Tickets are expected to be $35 plus service charges, but DJ Pandemonium is promising it will be worth every penny.
You’ll find details on these, and all other Sin City events, on the Sin City website.
And that’s it for another week’s worth of Hot Sexy Events. Thank you to all our readers, whether you’ve been visiting Erotic Vancouver for our past year of this column, if you’re a brand new to it, or if you’ve been with us since the website launched in 2011. Your support for this website and for Vancouver’s alt-sex and sex positive scenes is appreciated.
As always, if you know of an event that should have made the weeks listings but didn’t be sure to let us, and our readers, know in a comment below.
