Father of Modern Psychiatry Regrets Study Supporting Gay “Cure”

The New York Times Reports that Dr. Robert L. Spitzer has decided to recant and apologize for a study conducted  in 2003 that supported the use of controversial reparative therapy to “cure” homosexuality. Widely decried at the time and since, a recent World Health Organization report called the study “a serious threat to the health and well-being–even the lives–of affected people.”

In a letter to be published later this month in a noted journal, Spitzer offers “the gay community an apology.” He says that regrets for the study have remained with him for years and led to sleepless nights.
